About The Position

Primrose School of Yukon is seeking a Food Service Teacher (Chef) to prepare nutritious meals for children. The school is an accredited private preschool offering year-round programs for children from infancy through elementary-aged school age. The role involves preparing meals and snacks according to the daily menu and portion standards, accommodating allergies and food restrictions, and maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe kitchen. The position also assists with food ordering and other duties as directed by the Director or designee.

Requirements

Meet the basic requirements of local child care and food service regulatory agencies.
Ability to relate positively to young children.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in connection with handling children, facilitating programs, ensuring child safety, and potential emergency situations.

Previous experience in quantity food preparation.

Responsibilities

Remain aware of children’s allergies and food restrictions and offer suitable substitute items.
Ensure the food service area and food are free of nuts, nut products, and items processed in facilities that also process nut products, following school policies. Check food labels upon receipt for compliance.
Follow the daily menu prepared by or in collaboration with the Director.
Follow portion-control standards when preparing lunches and snacks.
Adapt to and implement menu changes when instructed.
Ensure each meal is ready to serve at its scheduled time.
Assist with ordering food and calculate the quantities needed.
Maintain an orderly, clean, and safe kitchen, including properly maintaining equipment.
Attend required staff meetings, workshops, and school functions.
Maintain a professional personal appearance in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
Assist in other capacities as determined necessary by the Director or designee.
