Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1 year experience in commercial/institutional food preparation or service, experience working with people (preferably older adults).
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to lead a group and comfortable speaking in front of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with older adults, volunteers, and co-workers.
  • Basic knowledge of the social, economic, and environmental conditions of clients to be served; skill in basic reading, writing, and simple mathematics; ability to establish rapport and relate to population served and a variety of service disciplines; ability to work with caregivers, family members and people from all socio-economic levels; ability to prepare and maintain simple reports of activities; ability to use computer and applicable software applications to complete daily reports, emails, and timesheets as required; ability to exercise good judgment in reacting to emergency situations; ability to implement emergency policies and procedures; ability to make assessments and verbally communicate findings; ability to practice sound hygiene and food sanitation techniques; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and associates; and ability to attend work regularly and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; Must be able to lift 15 or more pounds, lift, bend, carry meals.

  • Experience working with older adults strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive food from the catering company and perform necessary steps for the receiving and preparing of meals to be delivered to the home bound participants and served to the congregate meal participants.
  • Take and document food temperatures upon arrival, confirming correct number of meal items received per daily order.
  • Review food quality, report any food problems or shortages to supervisor.
  • Portion and pack trays for HDM routes and place in warmer to maintain food temperatures until meals are picked up for delivery.
  • Maintain temperature of food to be served to congregate participants and take temperature of food prior to serving.
  • Engage congregate meal participants in daily programs and activities.
  • Conduct an exercise program on a weekly basis.
  • Organize a variety of different activities to celebrate special occasions and holidays, including participants' birthdays.
  • Develop a professional helping relationship with all congregate meal participants reporting to supervisor any concerns regarding the health or well-being of any participant.
  • Maintain a clean nutrition site by following state sanitation rules and practices.
  • Follow all safe food handling practices as required by the state sanitation rules and the Gaston County Health Inspector.
  • Complete all required record keeping requirements including daily attendance totals for the congregate group, records for meals received, served, and not served for HDMs and congregate services, documentation of riders of the ACCESS van, and food temperature documentation.
  • Prepare and call to nutrition office by 1:30pm the meal order for the following day.
  • Contact new HDM and group participants after receiving contact information from Nutrition Specialist and complete initial assessment to begin HDM and/or congregate meal participation.
  • Complete 6-month assessments on HDM & congregate participants.
  • Contact volunteers scheduled for the HDM routes in advance to ensure they are committed to running the route.
  • Communicate with volunteers regarding any updates and/or changes regarding the HDM routes they are assigned.
  • Share pertinent information with volunteers that would assist them in completion of the route sheets.

Benefits

  • The anticipated hiring range for this position is $14.23 - $16.54
