About The Position

Amethod Public Schools (AMPS) is seeking a dedicated Food Service Manager & Site Custodian to join their school site operations team. This dual-role position involves managing the daily meal service, including ordering, compliance, and serving, while also performing daily cleaning and sanitization tasks throughout the school facility. The ideal candidate is adaptable, trustworthy, and takes pride in maintaining a hygienic and welcoming environment. This role requires efficiency during busy meal times and the ability to work independently during cleaning hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in, or ability to quickly learn, cloud-based school nutrition point-of-sale (POS) systems, electronic inventory systems, and related administrative platforms.
  • Literacy in English Language; ability to follow multi-step instructions and relay data errors or site safety concerns to administration.
  • Strong organizational skills with a results-oriented approach to tracking metrics and handling compliance paperwork.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and practice efficient time-management.
  • Ability to properly handle, dilute, and store daily cleaning supplies and chemical liquids safely.
  • Must successfully pass the ServSafe Food Manager Examination (or achieve certification within a designated timeframe upon hire).
  • Must pass a mandatory Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint and background clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in school food service.
  • Previous experience with data entry/point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Previous experience in institutional school cleaning.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the reheating and serving of meals, including managing special diets and food allergies, to ensure all students receive nutritious meals in accordance with CA Universal Meals mandates.
  • Operates the cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) terminal to accurately record all meals and snacks served.
  • Executes and compiles daily and monthly meal reports via the electronic school nutrition platform.
  • Orders monthly meals based on enrollment, updates monthly menu calendars, and resolves delivery issues with the lunch vendor.
  • Maintains regulatory logs, including refrigeration logs and daily production sheets, to satisfy state and federal guidelines.
  • Maintains all kitchen equipment, food preparation, and serving areas in a sanitary condition.
  • Cleans and sanitizes the cafeteria after meal service periods, including wiping down and disinfecting tables and straightening chairs.
  • Empties kitchen trash and recycling bins promptly after meal periods.
  • Identifies and reports any kitchen or warming equipment malfunctions to school leadership.
  • Sweeps, mops, dust-mops, and vacuums floors in classrooms, offices, entryways, and hallways daily.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and polishes desks, tables, and frequently touched surfaces.
  • Dusts furniture, walls, and office equipment.
  • Services, cleans, stocks, and disinfects student and staff restrooms daily, restocking supplies.
  • Empties trash and recycling bins in all classrooms and common areas daily, transporting garbage to designated dumpster zones.
  • May be required to travel to alternate school sites using a personal vehicle for operational cleaning or lunch backup coverage.
  • Participates in regular team meetings and communicates cleaning supply inventory or software-related data needs to supervisors.
  • Performs other reasonably assigned operational cleaning duties requested by school site leadership.

Benefits

  • Pay: Food Service Manager: $23 - $26 per hour (Commensurate with experience)
  • Pay: Janitor: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour (Commensurate with experience)
