About The Position

CARITAS is a growing nonprofit in Richmond, Virginia, providing a range of community services. This new position supports the Food Service team by coordinating food donation pickups, managing inventory, ensuring proper product sorting and rotation, and overseeing food purchases. The role aims to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure food service operations consistently meet participant needs by answering critical day-to-day operational questions about inventory, ordering, and supplies for different facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and at least two years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • ServSafe Certification required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workspace.
  • Ability to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to receive, stock, and deliver goods.
  • Ability to accurately complete routine administrative paperwork.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and personalities.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative, prioritize multiple tasks, and work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary driver responsible for the procurement and distribution of in-kind food donations, including daily pickups from Feed More and other community partners (Monday–Friday).
  • Safely transport, unload, sort, and store all food products in accordance with food safety standards and first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory practices.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels by tracking incoming donations and communicating product availability to support effective menu planning and ordering.
  • Serve as a key liaison to Feed More, in-kind donors, retail partners, and community organizations by building strong relationships that enhance food recovery efforts and increase support for CARITAS Food Services.
  • Assist with placing weekly orders for food and kitchen supplies under the direction of the Senior Manager of Food Services.
  • Complete all required documentation and data entry, including Feed More portals, CARITAS forms (in-kind tracking and vehicle use), and monthly inventory counts.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen and storage environment in accordance with Virginia Department of Health standards.
  • Support a positive, structured learning environment by guiding program participants, interns, and volunteers in kitchen and warehouse tasks.
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and teamwork to help foster a respectful and productive peer culture.
  • Maintain all required certifications, including ServSafe and Feed More shopper authorization.
  • Support transportation operations, including fueling vehicles and reporting mechanical issues to the Facilities Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Manager of Food Services and designated Operations staff to maximize the use of donated food products.
  • Manage kitchen inventory across all storage areas, including coolers, freezers, and dry storage, following established inventory management processes for receiving, stocking, transfers, cycle counts, and monthly inventories to ensure inventory accuracy and integrity.
  • Rotate stock, label products, and help maintain established par levels for core food items.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with CARITAS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
