About The Position

This position is responsible for various food service duties, including food preparation, serving, cleaning, and record-keeping. The role requires knowledge of child nutrition programs, food preparation techniques, basic math, and safety regulations. The lead floating position may involve instructing others, assisting with deliveries, preparing special diets, and potentially traveling to satellite schools to serve food or deliver supplies in emergencies. The role also includes maintaining equipment, ensuring proper food temperatures, and assisting with recipe testing and product development. Basic computer skills are also required.

Requirements

• Knowledge of Child Nutrition Program Requirements.
• Working knowledge of preparation of food.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics and measuring conversions.
• Knowledge of safety and health regulations.
• ServSafe taken and passed no later than the end of two full quarters following initial employment date.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to deal with people in a congenial manner.
• Ability to communicate and apply written and oral directions effectively.
• Ability to work at a fast pace with accurate results.
• Ability to work within time constraints.
• Pass post job offer, pre-employment physical.
• Satisfactory language skill and reasoning ability.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction to a few people.
• Assist in putting away delivered foods and supplies.
• Maintain clean body and clothing at all times.
• Prepare foods for special diets according to the manager’s direction.
• Ensure that equipment is properly used and cared for.
• Prepare food items by using appropriate methods and standardized recipes.
• Ensure proper amounts of food sent to satellite schools.
• Recognize properly prepared food items by sight, taste, and smell.
• Inform manager of food and supplies needed for department.
• Assist with setting up serving areas and dispensing food.
• Go to satellite schools to serve food, record amounts of food used and clean up serving areas.
• Assist with cleaning lunchroom and serving area after use.
• Perform cleaning duties as assigned by the manager.
• Drive delivery truck to various schools if need arises.
• Deliver and pickup food and supplies in an emergency.
• Assume responsibilities for the assigned department.
• Assist with recipe testing and product development.
• Keep daily records of all food and non-food supplies used in assigned department for inventory records.
• Maintain accurate food production records for the assigned department.
• Prepare and serve food for outside activities.
• Compute food requirements for meals.
• Maintain freezers and storage areas in an orderly manner.
• Thaw and cool foods in compliance with proper sanitation guidelines.
• Ensure proper food temperatures and documentation are kept.
• Calibrate thermometers as necessary.
• Assist with food preparation in all areas of the kitchen.
• Perform such other duties as assigned by manager.
