About The Position
The Food Service Associate assists with serving and delivering meals in different formats, which may include working on the tray line, in food production, or in dining room areas. Duties include cold food production, food preparation, portioning, tray preparation and delivery, service, and ware washing. The role is part time, with evening and weekend work, at The Commons on St. Anthony, a residential health care facility in Auburn, New York. Paid training is provided.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to follow simple oral and written directions.
- Good customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to hot or cold environments while performing job duties.
- Ability to lift boxes, cartons, and pans of food weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to frequently reach, bend, stoop, stand, walk, push, and pull.
- Ability to stand for long periods, up to 8 hours.
- Ability to perform routine cleaning.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and record temperatures of perishable items upon storage or delivery and before and after service to ensure food safety.
- Store food correctly, wrapping, labeling, and dating items to preserve food quality.
- Rotate inventory daily in holding and storage areas using first-in, first-out practices.
- Check food products for damage, leaks, or spoilage to maintain quality control.
- Comply with federal, state, and local laws; facility and meal-service policies and procedures; and infection-control practices.
- Maintain safe, clean, and sanitary work areas.
- Load soiled dishes, trays, and other ware into the washing machine; remove, inspect, and store items after cleaning as directed.
- Sweep and mop areas as directed.
- Take tray carts or food carts to assigned floors and notify Nursing staff when trays arrive.
- Clean and stock beverage coolers for meals.
- Clean and sanitize pots, pans, racks, and work areas.
- Assist with cold food production, food preparation, portioning, tray preparation, service, tray delivery, and ware washing.
