About The Position

The Food Service Assistant at Sanford Health is responsible for a variety of duties within the food service department, including monitoring and recording food temperatures, setting up and maintaining clean and sanitized serving areas, and preparing and serving food items. Key tasks also involve restocking food areas, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, and processing payments for food and beverages using a computerized register. The role requires strict adherence to Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food service, providing outstanding customer service, and effective communication with patrons and co-workers. The assistant must demonstrate the ability to establish effective working relationships and maintain quality control standards. The position may involve operating various kitchen and service equipment such as grills, beverage machines, toasters, ice cream dispensers, cash registers, steam equipment, dishwashers, telephones, refrigerators, and freezers. The individual should be capable of working independently when necessary and possess a strong understanding of food safety and sanitation processes. On-the-job training will be provided.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk far distances
  • Possesses an understanding of food safety and sanitation processes
  • Serv Safe may be required to obtain within a designated time frame (depending upon location of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required (depending upon location requirements)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience
  • Retail counting and reconciliation of money knowledge
  • Experience working in the food industry
