About The Position

The Food Service Assistant at Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ) is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Headmaster. This role involves ensuring student safety and appropriate behavior during lunch and recess, enforcing school rules, fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere, and assisting students with any needs that arise. The position also requires maintaining the safety and cleanliness of playground and cafeteria areas, providing basic first aid, and communicating effectively with students, staff, and parents. The assistant will participate in staff meetings and training, collaborate with other school personnel, and model moral character in line with the school's core virtues. Duties include assisting with inventory control, serving food according to guidelines, tracking student participation in meal programs, cleaning and sanitizing the multipurpose room, and supporting teachers in maintaining an orderly lunchroom environment. Adherence to all school policies, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and creative problem-solving are essential. The role also requires completing all required training, demonstrating reliable attendance, and proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor students during lunch and recess to ensure their safety and appropriate behavior
  • Enforce school rules and policies to maintain a respectful and orderly environment
  • Address any behavioral issues promptly and report them to the appropriate school staff
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel safe and respected
  • Encourage positive social interactions among students and help mediate conflicts when necessary
  • Assist students with any needs or issues that arise during breakfast, lunch and recess
  • Ensure all playground and cafeteria areas are safe and free of hazards
  • Provide basic first aid when necessary and report any injuries to school administration
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies in accordance with school policies and procedures
  • Assist in the setup and cleanup of the cafeteria before and after meal periods
  • Encourage students to clean up after themselves and maintain cleanliness in eating and play areas
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the school administration
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents as needed
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required
  • Collaborate with other aides and school personnel to ensure a cohesive and supportive environment
  • Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Assists staff and volunteers in inventory control.
  • Serves food per breakfast and lunch guidelines.
  • Supports the tracking of students participating in the breakfast and lunch program.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing the multi purpose room.
  • Supports teachers and staff in maintaining an orderly lunch room environment.
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
