About The Position

The Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) Manager at Jennie-O in Faribault, MN, is responsible for ensuring all FSQ personnel, processes, and programs meet or exceed company standards for product safety, quality, sanitation, process knowledge, and technology. This role establishes, documents, implements, and maintains FSQ programs, procedures, and product specifications across all plant operations. The manager oversees food safety and quality programs to ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, and internal Hormel standards, providing leadership and support to both plant operations and the FSQ department. They will mentor, train, and develop FSQ supervisors, lead the development and execution of Statistical Process Control (SPC) programs, and manage the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of departmental and plant-wide goals and KPIs. Key responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of HACCP and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP) programs, ensuring continuous compliance with USDA regulations, animal welfare standards, and company policies. The manager also serves as the primary lead for investigating and resolving consumer complaints related to food safety and quality, leading root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions, and driving improvement initiatives. They will lead the implementation of Hormel Production System (HPS) principles and the FSQ Foundation, act as a liaison with USDA personnel and corporate FSQ, and be responsible for training employees related to the plant's New Poultry Inspection System (NPIS) program.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Quality Assurance and food safety experience in a plant environment.
  • Prior Food Safety & Quality Manager experience leading FSQ for a plant operation.
  • Previous supervisory experience over a Food Safety & Quality Team
  • Working knowledge of food safety and QA programs.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, FDA, FSMA, and SOP requirements.
  • PCQI, SQF Practitioner Certification.
  • Strong leadership skills or supervisory experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States.

  • Provides strong leadership, direction, and support to both plant operations and the FSQ department.
  • Mentors, trains, and develops FSQ supervisors.
  • Leads the development and execution of Statistical Process Control (SPC) programs to effectively control process variables and drive improvement.
  • Manages the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of departmental and plant-wide goals, KPIs, and performance metrics to improve quality, maximize efficiencies, and reduce costs.
  • Leads the development, implementation, validation, and maintenance of HACCP and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP) programs.
  • Ensures continuous compliance with all applicable USDA regulations, animal welfare standards, and company policies.
  • Serves as the primary lead for the investigation, resolution, and documentation of consumer complaints related to food safety and quality concerns.
  • Leads root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for food safety, quality, and regulatory issues.
  • Drives focused improvement initiatives and special projects to strengthen food safety systems and operational excellence.
  • Leads the implementation and sustainment of Hormel Production System (HPS) principles and the FSQ Foundation within the plant.
  • Acts as a key liaison with USDA inspection personnel, corporate FSQ, and plant leadership to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Responsible for training of employees and oversight related to the plants New Poultry Inspection System (NPIS) program.
