About The Position

A Ziegenfelder Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for maintaining food safety and quality systems, programs, and documentation. This role involves assisting with QA department tasks such as mix making, CIP, equipment cleaning, product quality testing/sampling, and completion of master sanitation schedule tasks. The manager will actively participate in facility discussions, providing food safety and quality call-outs. A key responsibility is developing and maintaining qualified personnel within the QA department through organizational development, personnel assessment, training, direction, motivation, and scheduling. The position serves as the SQF Practitioner and PCQI for the plant location and requires managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-focused environment. The manager ensures that other managers, supervisors, and process owners uphold their responsibilities within the food safety and quality management system. This includes managing microbiological and chemistry-related testing, the food safety plan and supporting programs, and coordinating all documentation for compliance with federal, state, local, and Ziegenfelder directives, policies, and procedures. The role also manages internal lab functions, provides leadership and training in Quality Assurance and Food Safety, partners with operations managers and supervisors for change implementation and quality improvement, and verifies finished product meets quality standards. Overseeing the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan, is crucial. The manager will also work hands-on with the QA team to ensure timetables for deliverables are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Preference will be given to Food Science, Food Technology Degree, or other related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience and training with Food Safety, HACCP, SQF, Sanitation (SSOP & GMP), and/or other food safety systems and Quality Assurance process improvement skills required.
  • HACCP and PCQI certification required.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Strong computer skills to include the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%.

  • SQF certification preferred, but not required.

  • Managing internal lab functions including microbial samples, document completion & control, comparing internal laboratory results with outside laboratory results, and daily product release / hold management.
  • Providing leadership and training guidance in Quality Assurance and Food Safety and partnering with operations managers and supervisors to implement change and quality improvement.
  • Verifying finished product meets quality standards.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan.
  • Hands on work with QA team to ensure timetables for deliverables are met.
