About The Position

This role involves ensuring compliance with Gorton's/Specialty food safety, quality, and legality standards for raw materials, ingredients, packaging, processing operations, and finished goods. The technician will coordinate lab functions, participate in sanitation efforts, examine incoming materials, inspect processing operations, review finished products (including cooking for wholesomeness), ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), enforce product safety programs through inspections and sampling, maintain records, and coordinate sanitation efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma
  • Experience working in a lab environment
  • Familiar with general calibration of lab equipment
  • 1-2 years of experience in a Quality inspection role preferably in a dry food operation
  • Strong personality and willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of general GMPs and food safety

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • PCQI Certification

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate raw material, ingredients, packaging materials, processing operations, and finished goods to ensure compliance to Gorton's/Specialty food safety, quality and legality issues.
  • Coordinate lab functions and participate in sanitation efforts during cleaning operations.
  • Examine all incoming raw materials, ingredients and packaging, compare results against established standards and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Perform detailed examination of processing operation to determine compliance with established standards. When defective product or poor practice is observed, coordinate corrective action with production management.
  • Review finished product including cooking of product to determine wholesomeness, product identity and character. When defective product is found, coordinate corrective action with production management.
  • Ensure compliance with good manufacturing practices and enforce product safety program by inspection of processing area, employee hygiene and practices, microbiological sampling and assisting in detailed audits.
  • Maintain complete records of all inspection programs and examinations.
  • Coordinates sanitation efforts in conjunction with shift supervisor and communicates results with relevant management after sanitation completion.
