The primary responsibilities of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FS/QA) Supervisor include supervising QA inspectors’ job performances and training new QA inspectors. Other responsibilities include operational sanitation, foreign object and quality investigations, monitoring the food safety/quality program, HACCP review, monitoring and verification of CCPs, and food safety training. The FS/QA Supervisor also ensures that the meat products, processes and services meet food safety standards and the desired quality levels at all times.

Requirements

  • At least two-years’ experience in Food Safety/Quality Assurance, food processing, or related discipline, preferably in a meat manufacturing facility
  • Can demonstrate technical proficiency in the areas of food safety, food processing, and food regulations and policy
  • Prior knowledge of food safety, specifications, GMPs, SOPs, HACCP
  • Strong interpersonal communication (written and oral) and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to logically problem solve, work through situations, and take corrective action when needed
  • Ability to motivate, lead and work as a team
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic Math, Logical/Analytical

Responsibilities

  • Provide food safety support and expertise for the daily management and implementation of the food safety system
  • Manage and schedule FS/QA personnel for food safety, legality, and quality tasks
  • Assist in investigations
  • Help oversee testing programs/communicate test results to respective customers (i.e., COAs)
  • Work closely with production management, supervisors, hourly personnel, and USDA/FSIS inspectors
  • Conduct product audits to ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Provide initial and ongoing training of programs and procedures to FS/QA personnel (i.e., HACCP, SSOP, SOPs, GMPs, and other Pre-Requisite programs)
  • Review and communicate safe work environments
  • Perform FS/QA personnel evaluations
  • Involved with daily recordkeeping requirements and corrective actions/root cause analysis
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and initiate disciplinary action when deemed necessary
  • Assure control measures are in place and implemented as needed to ensure safe, wholesome product
  • Monitor facility and activities to assure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Communicate changes to FS/QA personnel and work closely with QA inspectors
