About The Position

Merry Meritage at Meritage Resort & Spa is a seasonal holiday experience featuring an outdoor ice rink, festive activations, family entertainment, food and beverage offerings, and memorable guest experiences throughout the holiday season. Our food and beverage support team plays an important role in ensuring that service is organized, efficient, and welcoming for every guest. We are looking for our next Food Runner / Barback to join our seasonal food and beverage team. This role is ideal for a dependable, energetic team member who enjoys working behind the scenes to support servers, bartenders, culinary teams, and guests in both indoor and outdoor environments. As a Food Runner / Barback, you will be responsible for delivering food and beverages, supporting bar operations, restocking service areas, maintaining cleanliness, and helping the food and beverage team provide timely and high-quality service. You will work in a fast-paced environment where communication, teamwork, organization, and attention to detail are essential.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, resort, catering, banquet, bar, or hospitality environment is preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience as a food runner, busser, barback, server assistant, or similar support role is beneficial.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to move quickly and safely while carrying food, beverages, trays, and supplies.
  • Ability to follow directions, prioritize tasks, and remain organized during busy service periods.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, reliable attendance, and willingness to assist wherever needed.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, professional appearance and provide friendly guest service.
  • California Food Handler Card, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in cold temperatures and changing weather conditions.
  • Must be available to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak-season periods.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while actively supporting operations.
  • This position requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movements while working in indoor and outdoor food and beverage service environments.
  • Team members must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, transport food, beverages, trays, ice, glassware, supplies, and equipment, and work in cold outdoor temperatures for extended periods while maintaining professional service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver food from the kitchen to guests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Verify that orders are complete, accurate, properly presented, and accompanied by any necessary condiments, utensils, or service items.
  • Communicate effectively with culinary team members, servers, bartenders, managers, and other team members regarding order details, special requests, and guest needs.
  • Assist servers with table maintenance, clearing, resetting, and maintaining organized guest areas.
  • Support bartenders by stocking liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, disposables, and other beverage supplies.
  • Prepare bar garnishes, mixers, beverage mise en place, and other items as directed by the bartender or manager.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked barbacks, service stations, storage areas, and guest spaces.
  • Replenish food and beverage products throughout service to support efficient operations.
  • Assist with transporting food, beverages, trays, supplies, and equipment between indoor and outdoor service areas.
  • Clear empty glassware, dishes, trash, and other items from guest areas and service stations.
  • Assist with setting up, replenishing, and breaking down food and beverage service areas, events, and special activations.
  • Maintain awareness of food allergies, dietary restrictions, special requests, and order modifications.
  • Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety standards at all times.
  • Communicate spills, broken glass, unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, product shortages, and other issues to management promptly.
  • Assist with crowd flow, holiday programming, outdoor service areas, and other Merry Meritage activities as needed.
  • Provide friendly and professional assistance to guests when appropriate and direct questions to the appropriate team member.
  • Work collaboratively with the food and beverage, culinary, ice rink, retail, and resort teams.
  • Maintain a positive, festive, and service-focused atmosphere throughout every guest interaction.
  • Follow all company policies, service standards, food safety guidelines, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success of Merry Meritage.
