About The Position

The Food Prep position is responsible for food merchandising, customer service, food preparation, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and supporting store operations. The role ensures deliveries are accurate, merchandise is stocked and attractively displayed, items are priced correctly, inventory is monitored, and food is rotated to maintain quality and freshness. It prepares and serves food and beverages, maintains food preparation areas and display cases, and cleans and sanitizes food service equipment. The position also assists with training associates when needed, helps resolve routine customer concerns, attends job-related meetings, and performs other duties assigned by the Store Manager. Work is primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor duties and exposure to cold temperatures, noise, and physical activity. The employee works with minimum direction and periodic supervision.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to work as scheduled, including arriving on time.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas so others understand.
• Ability to perform essential duties and physical functions and work in the described conditions.
• Ability to occasionally work in cold or warm temperature extremes, including a walk-in cooler or freezer and outdoors.
• Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead.
• Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist.
• Ability to grasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands for an entire shift, requiring eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to push or pull with arms using up to 20 pounds of force.
• Ability to reach overhead, bend and twist at the waist, stoop, kneel, squat, push, and pull.
• Ability to communicate orally and operate a cash register and/or computer keyboard.
• Ability to work alone and stand and/or walk for an entire shift.
• Ability to tolerate occasional noise and possibly climb a ladder to store or retrieve materials or place and remove signs.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Retail sales experience preferred.
• Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure grocery deliveries are accurate, merchandise is stocked and attractively displayed, and items are priced correctly.
• Complete build-to’s for ordering or purchasing merchandise.
• Check in deliveries, price and stock merchandise according to schematic, verify invoices, review discrepancies with the Store Manager, and report outdated merchandise to the Store Manager.
• Assemble, date, and price-mark in-store displays.
• Rotate food items and monitor quality and freshness to protect customers from illness.
• Monitor and maintain food preparation areas and display cases.
• Assist with training new associates when necessary, emphasizing excellent customer service.
• Monitor and organize inventory to help prevent items from being out of stock.
• Provide prompt, courteous, friendly, and attentive customer service; greet customers and thank them as they leave.
• Resolve or help resolve routine customer concerns within established guidelines.
• Report to work on time and follow the dress and appearance code.
• Prepare and serve quality food and beverages to meet customer needs.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Sweep and mop or clean floors; dust or wash windows, counters, displays, store areas, and bathrooms; and pick up and dispose of trash, litter, or debris.
• Inspect store facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and proper working order.
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain food service equipment.
• Attend job-related meetings, which may require irregular hours.
• Maintain intradepartmental workflow by fostering cooperation and comply with company policies and procedures.
• Contribute to team efforts, perform duties with minimal supervision, and complete other duties assigned by the Store Manager.
• Perform occasional outdoor cleaning duties, including cleaning parking lots and gas pumps and taking out garbage.
