About The Position

The Food Prep Assistant position is a part-time role responsible for ensuring food deliveries are accurate, stocked, attractively displayed, and correctly priced. This role involves maintaining inventory, preparing displays, rotating food items to ensure quality and freshness, and monitoring the food preparation area and display cases. The assistant will also provide excellent customer service, resolve customer concerns, and maintain a safe and clean work environment. Additionally, the role may involve supervising food prep employees in the absence of the Store Manager, assisting with training, and ensuring compliance with all government laws, health and safety codes, and company policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months to 1 year of retail store or food service work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
  • Knowledge of basic business and customer service principles including planning and organizing, resource management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Ability to deal with customers and unanticipated problems or events using standard procedures.
  • Ability to work as scheduled, including arriving to work on time.
  • Ability to accurately operate a variety of equipment that may include hot or cold or beverage dispensers, grills, ovens, fry stations, and other machines or tools.
  • Ability to perform essential duties and physical functions.
  • Ability to work in the described conditions.
  • Ability to be exposed to cold or warm temperature extremes performing occasional work in a walk-in cooler and/or freezer and outdoors.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds from ground to overhead (i.e., assisting in stocking/maintaining inventory levels).
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist (i.e., to replenish fountain syrups).
  • Ability to grasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands for the entire shift (Handwork requires eye-hand coordination).
  • Ability to push/pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds (i.e., utilizing a hand-truck).
  • Able to reach overhead for objects.
  • Ability to bend and twist at the waist.
  • Ability to communicate orally.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and/or computer keyboard.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, squat, bend, push, and pull.
  • Ability to work alone.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for an entire shift.
  • May require climbing a ladder to store and retrieve materials or place and remove signs.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with company guidelines for maximizing sales, profitability, and customer service by ensuring all grocery deliveries are accurate, stocked, attractively displayed, and priced correctly.
  • Complete build-to’s for ordering/purchasing merchandise.
  • Maintain inventory by checking in delivery, pricing items, and stocking merchandise according to schematic.
  • Validate deliveries by verifying invoices and reviewing discrepancies with the Store Manager.
  • Deliver outdated merchandise to the Store Manager to ensure charged items match delivered items.
  • Prepare displays by assembling, dating, and price marking in-store displays.
  • Rotate food items, monitoring quality and freshness measures to protect customers from illness.
  • Monitor and maintain the food preparation area and display cases to attract and retain customers.
  • Assist in training new associates with an emphasis on excellent customer service.
  • Monitor and organize inventory to prevent stockouts.
  • Use and coach food service staff on suggestive selling and other techniques to maximize sales.
  • Make price changes in accordance with Company and/or brand guidelines; place advertising and pricing signage.
  • Prepare and ensure food items are prepared according to menus and recipes with proper weights, holding times, and temperatures; practice and ensure safe food handling procedures are followed.
  • Provide prompt, excellent customer service in a courteous, friendly, and attentive manner.
  • Greet customers as they enter the area and thank them as they leave.
  • Resolve or assist in resolving routine customer concerns within established guidelines.
  • Report to work on time and follow the dress and appearance code.
  • Prepare and serve quality food and beverages to satisfy customer needs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Sweep and mop floors, dust and/or wash windows, counters, displays, store areas, and bathrooms.
  • Pick up and dispose of trash, litter, or debris.
  • Inspect store facilities and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and proper working order.
  • Clean and check equipment including coffee machines, grills, fryers, beverage units, refrigeration units, and other machines, tools, and work aids.
  • Notify the Store Manager of any inventory or operating discrepancies.
  • Receive and sign for vendor deliveries and verify quality and quantity of product.
  • Follow vendor check-in procedures and account for quality and quantity of product received.
  • Follow Company and/or brand guidelines for product breakage or spoilage.
  • Supervise the activities of food prep employees engaged in preparing and serving food in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Coach and train new employees to carry out their duties in accordance with Company and/or brand operating, conduct, and performance standards.
  • Monitor customer traffic and make appropriate adjustments to decrease waiting time; may reschedule or reassign duties of employees.
  • Assist with scheduling and assigning duties to restaurant employees.
  • Assist with counseling of employees and provide feedback to help employees improve performance.
  • Follow and ensure food prep employees follow all government laws, health and safety codes, food brand inspection standards, and Company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Seek guidance from the Store Manager and/or appropriate management areas about legal questions or obligations.
  • Assist the Store Manager in maintaining a safe environment for employees and customers and protecting Company assets.
  • Report all incidents (employee or customer injury, theft, property damage, improper sanitation or waste disposal, etc.) to the Store Manager.
  • Report any situation in which unsafe, unlawful, or unethical conduct is or might be occurring.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of periodic sales, product, and operating reports as directed by the QSR Supervisor.
  • Attend job-related meetings (may be required to work irregular hours).
  • Maintain intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform all duties with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
  • May take inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Take inventory of stock to identify items to be reordered or replenished.
  • Review and verify employee paperwork and timekeeping records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
