About The Position

Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (BBHH) is an acute psychiatric and behavioral facility offering inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents, and adults. The Dietary Director will oversee all aspects of the Dietary Department, ensuring quality food service, proper nutritional content, and compliance with all regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s Degree with major studies in food and nutrition studies, dietetics, or food management OR A graduate of a dietetic technician training program approved by the American Dietetic Association, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education, or currently registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. OR A graduate of a dietetic assistant training program approved by the American Dietetic Association. OR A graduate of a dietetic services training program approved by the Dietary Managers Association and is a certified dietary manager credentialed by the Certifying Board of the Dietary Managers Association, maintains this certification, and has received at least six hours of in-service training on the specific California dietary service requirements contained in Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations prior to assuming full-time duties as a dietetic services supervisor at the health facility. OR A graduate of a college degree program with major studies in food and nutrition, dietetics, food management, culinary arts, or hotel and restaurant management and is a certified dietary manager credentialed by the Certifying Board of the Dietary Managers Association, maintains this certification, and has received at least six hours of in-service training on the specific California dietary service requirements contained in Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations prior to assuming full-time duties as a dietetic services supervisor at the health facility. OR A graduate of a state-approved program that provides 90 or more hours of classroom instruction in dietetic service supervision, or 90 hours or more of combined classroom instruction and instructor-led interactive Web-based instruction in dietetic service supervision. OR Received training experience in food service supervision and management in the military, equivalent to the content listed above.
  • Three (3) years of experience in all phases of food service required with a minimum of one (1) year in a hospital food service environment.
  • Valid Food Protection Manager’s Food Handlers Certificate.
  • Certified Dietary Manager.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a mental healthcare hospital environment where your attention was focused on human behavior, psychiatry, psychology, or other mental healthcare situations.
  • At least Two (2) years of experience in management with direct reports in a food service environment.
  • Prior mass-production commercial food service work experience.
  • Registered Dietitian Licensure
  • Nutritionist Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all activities and employees to ensure quality food service.
  • Works collaboratively with a registered dietitian to ensure proper nutritional content of all food & snacks served to patients.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with all local, state, and federal licensing, certification, and accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides supervision and training to the nutrition service personnel.
  • Monitors the daily activities of the department personnel.
  • Schedules the nutritional service staff according to the workload.
  • Ensures that appropriate sanitation and safety practices are being adhered to by staff.
  • Interviews and hires appropriate staff.
  • Counsels and evaluates nutrition server staff according to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Encourages continuity, teamwork, and quality service.
  • Tracks meal count statistics to develop into a monthly budget report.
  • Participates in activities that enhance professional growth and development.
  • Upholds the Organizations ethics and customer service standards.
