About The Position

Exotic Automation designs and builds custom hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication systems. The Fluid Power Systems Engineer partners with the sales team to translate customer requirements into system designs and proposals, then supports the solution through manufacturing, start-up, testing, and close-out. The position works with engineering, sales, customers, vendors, and shop teams on custom projects, with an emphasis on accurate design and documentation, quality, efficiency, and cost. Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by 22 CFR 120.62 because the position requires access to information subject to ITAR.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field; one or more years of engineering work experience may substitute.
• At least 2 years of experience detailing mechanical layouts and schematics.
• Hands-on experience with design software such as AutoCAD (2D), Inventor (3D), SolidWorks, or NX.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working with customers, sales, and shop teams.
• Attention to detail and commitment to accurate, complete work.
• Must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 CFR 120.62 due to ITAR-related access requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications and performance requirements and design custom hydraulic, pneumatic, coolant, and lubrication systems.
• Create schematics, layout drawings, and proposals.
• Quote and detail assemblies and join customer visits when needed to support the sales team.
• Finalize bills of materials, record as-built changes from assembly, and ensure job folders are complete at close-out.
• Work with manufacturing during system builds and support start-up and testing.
• Participate in peer design reviews, identify errors, suggest improvements, and help train sales staff on products.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and cost; recommend inventory, build vendor relationships, and share knowledge about competitors.
