Fluid Power Engineer Intern

Oshkosh•Oshkosh, WI

About The Position

Oshkosh is hiring a Fluid Power Engineer Intern to assist engineers with mechanical engineering work in Design or Research & Development teams. The intern may help develop component and system designs, identify failure trends, conduct failure analysis, and support vehicle component and performance testing. The role includes work related to fluid power, including hydraulics and/or pneumatics. Depending on the assignment, responsibilities may involve preparing vehicle component layouts with CAD software, selecting components, supporting prototype and production builds, performing engineering calculations, working with suppliers and internal teams, testing vehicles or components, analyzing reliability and warranty data, and—within Research & Development—planning, coordinating, and reporting on tests. The internship is based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for summer 2027. Summer housing is available to interns whose permanent address is more than 50 miles from their work location.

Requirements

  • Interest in fluid power, including hydraulics and/or pneumatics.
  • Currently working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Willingness to travel or relocate to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the duration of the summer 2027 internship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with mechanical engineering tasks in Design or Research & Development.
  • Help develop component and system designs and determine failure trends or perform failure analysis.
  • Prepare vehicle component layouts using CATIA, CREO, or other CAD software.
  • Select components for quality-conscious designs, considering weight, cost, reliability, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Follow design projects on the assembly floor during prototype, pilot, or production builds and provide technical assistance.
  • Generate engineering calculations for weight distribution, stress analysis, performance estimates, and related needs.
  • Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to resolve issues.
  • Participate in supplier discussions and track action items, including identifying problem root causes.
  • Perform or assist with testing of vehicles or vehicle components.
  • Develop and use mathematical reliability models.
  • Analyze field warranty data and prototype test data for failure trends.
  • For Research & Development assignments, establish testing requirements for vehicles and associated components.
  • Create test plans, recommend the equipment and resources needed, and prepare test project estimates.
  • Conceive test fixtures and apparatus and supervise their construction and implementation.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and monitor testing, including data collection and analysis.
  • Recommend corrective actions to maintain schedule and cost targets.
  • Communicate test status and results to internal departments, suppliers, and customers.

Benefits
