About The Position

Starks Industries Inc. is seeking an experienced Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our team. This candidate will assist in the Civil Financial Litigation Program (FLP). The candidate will have responsibility for collecting criminal financial impositions (including fines and restitution) and pursuing civil litigation to establish and debt owed to various federal government agencies. The successful candidate will work on-site at our client’s Washington State office.

Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate not required, but strongly preferred.
  • Must have paralegal experience, i.e., drafting pleadings, electronic filing, familiarity with CR pre-sentencing and sentencing documents is not required, but strongly preferred.
  • Ability to prepare a wide variety of legal and non-legal documents, including motions, briefs, and correspondence in grammatically correct format and with correct spelling.
  • Experience performing legal research in LexisNexis and/or Westlaw.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Must have the ability to keyboard at minimum 40 wpm with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills are extremely important.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week, excluding Federal Holidays, from 8:30am to 5pm
  • Must be able to pass a minimum background investigation (MBI).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the client's Docket Clerk to obtain and review copies of indictments.
  • Review transcripts of arraignments, bond hearings, pre-sentence reports and other proceedings where defendants' finances are discussed.
  • Coordinate with the Asset Forfeiture Unit about assets.
  • Work closely with the prosecuting Criminal attorneys for sentencing hearings.
  • Prepare pre-sentence asset investigation reports.
  • Assist in re-review of cases, which includes internet researching and generating Accurint, credit reports, requesting employment information from Department of Labor, etc.
  • Prepare enforcement pleadings such as subpoenas, writs of garnishments, and discovery docs (interrogatories and requests for production), when required.
  • Draft correspondence with opposing counsel, debtors, courts, financial institutions, and others that is clear, concise, correctly formatted, and free from grammatical and spelling errors.
