About The Position

Grand Canyon University’s Janitorial Cleaning Services Department is seeking a Floor Technician to perform floor maintenance across university spaces, including offices, classrooms, lobbies, entrances, stairwells, residence halls, apartments, and other GCU locations. The role maintains hard-surface floors and carpets through tasks such as stripping, waxing, buffing, shampooing, extraction, and bonneting, as well as general cleaning and maintenance duties.

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Training is Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for two weeks. The position requires a 40-hour work week and may involve overtime as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of work experience in floor cleaning or related work.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to understand English and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to complete reports and forms to log daily and monthly tasks.
• Knowledge of janitorial products, green cleaning products, cleaning agents, their appropriate uses in commercial cleaning, and proper chemical disposal.
• Considerable knowledge of the operation, use, and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and general housekeeping equipment.
• Ability to use and knowledge of small power tools.
• Familiarity with OSHA and MSDS requirements and compliance, as well as ADOSH requirements.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend assignments.
• Flexible, dependable, and reliable; able to work as a team player.
• Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to work under pressure and time constraints, including last-minute job requests.
• Must be able to physically perform job duties and work with harsh chemicals.
• Able to work a 40-hour schedule and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleaning supplies and equipment needed for the daily shift are available and accessible.
• Observe safety and security procedures.
• Perform preventative maintenance checks on equipment before use at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Perform hard-surface floor care, including routine dry and damp mopping, buffing, burnishing, stripping, waxing, polishing, and power washing.
• Maintain floors and carpets, including vacuuming, shampooing, bonneting, and extraction; maintain stairwells, including concrete sealing and high dusting.
• Complete daily work logs and/or monthly activity reports.
• Perform other cleaning services, including dusting and routine restroom, office, and classroom cleaning.
• Assist new team members by demonstrating proper floor-care procedures.
• Perform other cleaning and maintenance duties as assigned.
