About The Position

The floor technician position is responsible for helping to maintain a clean and safe environment for the Elon University Campus. This includes, but not limited to, custodial duties, maintaining and cleaning equipment, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors, and the stripping, sealing, finishing of floors, carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with less than 1 year of experience
  • Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without ‘giving out' or fatiguing during cleaning.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Ability to communicate information to supervisors or co-workers by telephone or in person.
  • Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Cleanliness of Campus: Clean all areas of the assigned building. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. Strip, seal and finish all hard floor surfaces. Clean carpets and upholstery, Mop, sweep, and vacuum floors daily. Sweep all stairwells and landings and complete daily tasks assigned by shift supervisor. Clean and sanitize areas that may contain biohazardous materials/fluids. Assist and perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to snow removal and storm damage recovery.
  • Stock Cleaning Cabinets: Maintain floor maintenance worker closets in a neat and orderly fashion. Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Maintain Cleaning Equipment: Maintain and clean all floor equipment reporting mechanical problems to the shift supervisor for proper repairs.
  • Reporting Maintenance Issues Found on Campus: Notify the proper channels with repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, or electrical systems are needed.
  • Building Safety and Security: Use of wet floor signs, bathroom cleaning signs, and other safety signs when appropriate.
  • Annual Training: Perform other duties deemed necessary by the shift supervisor. Attend and utilize information provided by yearly training.
