Responsibilities

  • Lead a safety-first culture; conduct pre-shift safety huddles and routine floor walks to identify and correct unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Enforce OSHA requirements and company safety programs, including Hazard Communication (GHS labeling and Safety Data Sheets), PPE and respiratory protection, lockout/tagout, and powered industrial truck (forklift) safety.
  • Oversee spill prevention and response and the proper segregation, labeling, and storage of non-hazardous.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses promptly, complete required documentation, and implement corrective actions.
  • Execute the daily and weekly production schedule; assign crews, equipment, and priorities to meet order due dates.
  • Direct and monitor batching operations — raw material weighing and charging, high-speed dispersion, let-down, tinting and adjustment — according to formulas and batch tickets.
  • Oversee filling, labeling and packaging lines to ensure correct fill weights, accurate labels and lot codes, and proper palletizing.
  • Coordinate batch changeovers and equipment/tank cleanouts to minimize downtime, cross-contamination, and waste.
  • Monitor output against targets throughout the shift; identify bottlenecks and adjust staffing or sequencing to recover.
  • Complete accurate production records, batch documentation, and shift reports, and communicate a clear handoff to the next shift.
  • Partner with Quality Control to ensure every batch meets specification (e.g., viscosity, weight per gallon, fineness of grind, color match, gloss) before it is released for filling.
  • Enforce adherence to formulas, standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices.
  • Identify, segregate, and document non-conforming material; support root-cause investigations and corrective actions for quality issues and customer complaints.
  • Maintain lot traceability for raw materials and finished goods.
  • Supervise, schedule, and direct production associates; manage attendance, time records, overtime, and time-off requests.
  • Train and cross-train employees on equipment, SOPs, quality standards, and safety procedures; maintain a skills matrix for the crew.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and administer corrective action consistently and in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Resolve employee concerns fairly and promptly, and escalate issues to the Plant Manager or HR as appropriate.
  • Ensure equipment (dispersers, mixers, mills, tanks, pumps, fillers, scales, forklifts) is operated correctly and inspected before use; report malfunctions and coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance with the Maintenance team.
  • Verify that scales and measuring devices are calibrated and in good working order.
  • Monitor raw material, packaging, and work-in-process levels; communicate shortages to Purchasing/Planning in time to avoid production delays.
  • Support accurate inventory transactions and cycle counts in the ERP/inventory system.
  • Track and report key performance indicators such as safety incidents, output, schedule attainment, yield, rework, waste, and labor efficiency.
  • Lead or participate in improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Recommend updates to SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
