About The Position

Fitness Floor Staff are essential in creating a welcoming, safe, and organized environment within the Health & Well-being Center. This role emphasizes active member engagement, a clean and secure workout space, and consistent adherence to service and safety standards. Staff connect effectively with members, volunteers, and colleagues, providing fitness guidance and enforcing YMCA policies to ensure a high-quality experience. Under the supervision of the Director of Health and Wellbeing, Fitness Floor Staff ensures a positive and supportive experience for all members and participants, upholding the standards of the South Shore YMCA.

Requirements

  • Current Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Previous experience in fitness or a related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • Personal Training certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all Health & Well-being Center activities while on duty.
  • Adhere to training guidelines when screening and advising members on fitness programs.
  • Conduct Fit Commit Appointments with new members, providing guidance on fitness programs, introducing them to equipment, and addressing their fitness goals.
  • Maintain a continuous, attentive presence in the Health & Well-being Center, ensuring members feel supported and safe.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, recording details afterward.
  • Report emergencies immediately to the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
  • Consistently enforce Health & Well-being policies and rules.
  • Collaborate respectfully with YMCA staff, fostering a supportive work environment.
  • Review emergency procedures regularly to ensure preparedness for prompt and effective responses to incidents.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete required skills training.
  • Fulfill additional tasks as directed by the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
  • Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.
  • Educate members about SSYMCA policies, procedures, and programs as needed.
  • Consistently enforce Health & Well-being rules in a fair manner.
  • Ensure the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are followed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Health & Well-being Center.
  • Report any faulty equipment or maintenance needs directly to the Director of Health and Wellbeing.
  • Complete attendance counts and other record-keeping tasks per department standards.
  • Support volunteer engagement, fostering community responsibility within the Health & Well-being Center.
  • Participate in YMCA fundraising activities and engage with local organizations to build community support.
