About The Position

The floating substitute provides both academic and behavioral support in general education classrooms. This position will provide support in the absence of a teacher in our elementary school, however, may serve in the substitute role within our K-12 school to support educators. This position can also provide office and front office support in the event it is needed. To be successful in this position the candidate will enjoy working directly supporting students in an educational environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (at minimum).
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and written.
  • Experience working in education and/or with children in a non-education setting.
  • Openness to feedback, desire to continue development as a professional, and willingness to take responsibility for student outcomes and achievement.
  • Demonstrated track record of operating with a growth mindset and deep humility in all previous roles.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and functions, use of the Internet and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Skill in the use of general office equipment such as calculators, copiers, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of children.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Willingness to follow directions.
  • Ability to handle unforeseen situations in accordance with School and Board Policy.
  • Ability to accept individual differences among children.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Flexibility to change substitute roles daily based on the needs of the school.
  • Work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Have regular and punctual attendance.
  • Follow all School policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the proper authorities.

  • Preferred Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging, motivating academic support to students in the classroom, using sub plans and modifications supported/provided by grade level.
  • Teach, support, and enhance school-wide systems and expectations at all times with all children.
  • Participate in required training as requested.
  • Actively engage in professional development, learning opportunities, and school-wide efforts.
  • Continuously use feedback to make productive changes in instructional practices and overall performance.
  • Complete all administrative requirements meeting deadlines.
  • Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout the year.
