Riverdale Y is a community and cultural center located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx. We’d be honored for you to make your career here! The Floater will be part of the Early Childhood Center team that includes six classrooms and 18 teachers, serving 89 children. We have several part time floater positions available working with two, three and four year olds. The hours for this position are Monday to Thurs 3:00PM-6:00PM and Friday 2:00PM-6:00PM. All teachers work directly with our Operations Manager and Early Childhood Center Director to create a warm, loving and creative first school experience that nurtures families and prepares children for elementary school.

Requirements

High School diploma
child care experience
Ability to build warm relationships with children and families.
Strong communication, collaboration, and reflective teaching skills.

Nice To Haves

progress towards a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is a plus.
Passion for music, movement, arts, gardening, cooking or other interests to share with children.

Responsibilities

Support our teaching team by working with children 2 to 5 years olds.
Helping to maintain a child-centered classroom environment that is inviting, loving, creative and clean.
Planning a daily routine that includes play, outdoor time, messy play, art, cooking, singing, reading stories, offering snack and a gathering circle.
Speaking to children with respect.
Being emotionally present to support children in their relationships, if they are unwell, and exhibiting empathy.
Creating a safe environment.
Supervising children at all times, including snack times, rest periods, diapering/restroom times, play times, and activity times.
Knowing all health and emergency policies of the program and being ready and willing to implement them if necessary.
Helping with general housekeeping tasks.
Maintaining appropriate communication with staff, children, and families at all times.
Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Interacting with parents at pick up time, signing children out for the day.
