About The Position

Lucy School is exploring the addition of a part-time Floater to provide flexible support throughout the school day. This position is intentionally designed to be adaptable, with the specific schedule and responsibilities determined by the needs of the school. The Floater may be asked to support different classrooms, age groups, and programs from day-to-day. Responsibilities could include covering for teachers, assisting in classrooms, supervising students during transitions, supporting recess and lunch, helping with arrival and dismissal, and providing additional adult support when needed. This position would be particularly well-suited to someone who enjoys working with children, is comfortable with variety, and can step into different situations with a positive and helpful attitude.

  • Be dependable, punctual, and willing to help wherever needed.
  • Be comfortable working with children from preschool through middle school.
  • Adapt easily to different classrooms, teachers, and situations.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with students and colleagues.
  • Be able to follow classroom routines and school policies.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment regarding student safety and supervision.
  • Appreciate Lucy School's arts-based, nature-oriented, and child-centered approach to education.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in a school, camp, childcare, tutoring, or similar setting is preferred but not necessarily required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term classroom coverage when a teacher or staff member is absent or unavailable.
  • Assist classroom teachers with activities, projects, and supervision.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups when appropriate.
  • Support preschool and elementary classrooms as needed.
  • Assist with arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Provide additional supervision during special events, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities.
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment for students.
  • Support teachers with basic classroom organization and preparation.
  • Assist with occasional administrative or operational tasks related to the school day.
  • Respond flexibly to changing needs and priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
