About The Position

Interim HealthCare is seeking compassionate Registered Nurses (RN) to serve as Substitute/Floating School Nurses throughout the New Brunswick school district. This dynamic role is for nurses who are comfortable working in various school settings and adapting to changing needs throughout the school day. As a Float School Nurse, you will provide substitute nursing coverage in school health offices across the district. Your assigned location and responsibilities may change throughout the day based on the needs of the schools and students. This position is ideal for a nurse who enjoys variety and can adapt quickly, potentially starting the day at one school and moving to another as needs arise, receiving same-day changes to assignments, and adapting to different school environments and student populations while maintaining professionalism and continuity of care.

Requirements

  • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Pediatric experience required
  • School Nursing experience required
  • Current CPR certification
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability and willingness to travel between school locations within New Brunswick
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and priorities throughout the school day
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Compassionate, dependable, and comfortable working independently

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of skilled nursing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing coverage wherever it is needed throughout the school day.
  • Provide nursing care to students in the school health office.
  • Assess students who are ill, injured, or experiencing health concerns.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies.
  • Provide first aid and respond to student emergencies.
  • Monitor students with chronic health conditions and individualized healthcare needs.
  • Manage and follow student health plans.
  • Perform routine nursing assessments and interventions.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and healthcare providers as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate student health records and documentation.
  • Support students who require specialized nursing care.
  • Assist with health screenings and other school health activities.
  • Provide coverage for school nurses who are absent or unavailable.
  • Support multiple school health offices when additional nursing coverage is needed.
  • Travel between different school locations within New Brunswick during the school day.
  • Adjust to changing staffing and student needs, which may require moving to another school with little notice.
  • Prioritize and respond to the most immediate health and nursing needs at each assigned school.
  • Start the day at one school and move to another school as needs arise.
  • Receive same-day changes to their assignments.
  • Adapt quickly to different school environments and student populations.
  • Maintain professionalism and continuity of care while transitioning between locations.
