About The Position

The Flight Safety & Compliance Specialist supports the Safety & Compliance Department by conducting aviation safety investigations, monitoring regulatory compliance, promoting Safety Management system (SMS) initiatives and assisting with operational safety oversight across Acron Aviation Academy's campuses. This position works closely with flight operations, maintenance, instructors, and leadership to identify hazards, investigate safety events, monitor compliance, and support continuous improvement of the organization's safety culture. The Flight Safety & Compliance Specialist serves as a technical resource within the Safety Department and performs work under the general direction of the Head of Flight Safety & Compliance.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3-5 years of prior relevant experience
  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
  • Experience conducting aviation safety investigations
  • Knowledge of FAA Parts 61, 91, and 141
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and Teams.
  • Intermediate excel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the internal team and for the customers.
  • Able to handle and respond to communication on multiple platforms in a timely manner.
  • Proactive with thinking through solutions to situations before they become problems.
  • Ability to be flexible, as the role evolves based on department and Academy needs.
  • Takes ownership of handling issues as they arise and feels empowered to problem-solve them by seeking feedback from the appropriate parties as needed.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of job functions as a key connection and liaison between multiple teams in the U.K. and the U.S.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of accounting and accounts receivables.
  • Must have attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle complex conversations and assist with early de-escalation.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation, Aviation Safety, Safety Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • CFII and/or MEI
  • Formal aviation accident or incident investigation training
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience with FOQA/FDM programs
  • Experience with aviation safety management software
  • Experience conducting regulatory compliance audits
  • Safety Management Systems certification

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations involving aircraft incidents, accidents, hazards, operational events, and safety reports.
  • Collect and document evidence, conduct interviews, analyze data, and prepare investigation reports.
  • Perform root cause and causal factor analyses using accepted investigative methodologies.
  • Develop recommendations to reduce operational risk and prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor assigned corrective actions through completion.
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and inspections.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable FAA regulations, Part 141 requirements, company policies, and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Assist departments in identifying and resolving compliance concerns.
  • Support FAA inspections and regulatory audits by preparing documentation and records.
  • Support implementation and administration of the Safety Management System.
  • Review hazard reports and assist with risk assessments.
  • Track safety performance indicators and corrective actions.
  • Assist with safety trend analysis and data reporting.
  • Promote safety reporting and Just Culture principles throughout the organization.
  • Perform flight line, ramp, and facility safety inspections.
  • Conduct operational observations of flight training activities.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness activities and emergency response exercises.
  • Participate in Safety Action Group meetings and assigned safety projects.
  • Deliver assigned safety training and operational safety briefings.
  • Assist with new employee safety orientation.
  • Support safety communication initiatives and departmental outreach programs.
  • Maintain an active FAA Certified Flight Instructor certificate.
  • Conduct flight instruction as operational needs require.
  • Maintain operational proficiency and remain current with academy procedures and standards.
