About The Position

Gundersen AIR delivers life-saving care in advanced medical helicopters. Emplify Health by Gundersen is seeking a fulltime Flight Paramedic to join our Gundersen Air team. While bases are located in Sparta, WI and Decorah, IA, the primary work location will be Sparta, WI. As a Flight Paramedic, you will work in conjunction with the Flight Nurse and pilot, sharing patient care and operational responsibilities. You will function as an advanced trained paramedic providing critical care in the medical transport of critically ill and injured patients. This role requires autonomous practice, adherence to medical protocols, and the use of critical thinking skills. You will assess patient conditions, develop care plans, establish priorities, and incorporate patient development into care delivery. Advanced trauma skills such as intubation, needle decompression, surgical and needle cricothyrotomy, central and peripheral intravenous access, and pericardiocentesis proficiency are required. You may also assist the pilot with aviation-related tasks including radio and navigation equipment, map reading, and GPS operation.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalency + completion of approved EMT-Paramedic course that utilizes the D.O.T. EMT-P course guidelines.
3-4 years' work experience in the 911 arena as an EMT-Paramedic working as an Advanced Life Support Provider required.
Valid Wisconsin, Minnesota or Iowa driver’s license.
National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (NREMT-P).
Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic - Wisconsin (EMT-P) & Minnesota (EMT-P MN) & Iowa Paramedic License (EMT-P IA).
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Ability to function in an extended shift (24 hours or greater) environment and be able to constructively utilize down-time between responses, transports, and transfers.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree in a health related field desired.
1-year Interfacility transport experience or Critical Care transport experience or air medical transportation is highly desired.

Responsibilities

Function as an advanced trained paramedic able to provide critical care in the medical transport of critically ill and injured patients.
Provide autonomous practice and deliver care using existing medical protocols and critical thinking skills.
Collaborate with the Flight Nurse to assess patient condition(s) to determine the nature and extent of illness or trauma.
Develop a plan of care for the patient during the transfer.
Establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed.
Incorporate knowledge of the patient's physical and psychosocial development into planning intervention(s) to deliver quality patient care.
Demonstrate and utilize advanced trauma skills and lifesaving procedures such as intubation, needle decompression, surgical and needle cricothyrotomy, central and peripheral intravenous access and pericardiocentesis proficiency.
Assist the pilot as requested inflight, operating and remaining proficient in advanced radio, navigation, NVG equipment, aviation map reading skills, plotting coordinates, as well as GPS operation.
