Army National Guard Units•Salem, OR

About The Position

This National Guard position is for a Flight Operations Specialist, GS-2102-8, in the Oregon National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility 1. The role conducts preflight briefings for pilots and provides in-flight advisory and flight-following services. The facility handles a relatively small number of flight services and mission briefings. The specialist briefs pilots on missions, aircraft, flight plans, restrictions, navigational facilities, hazards, terrain, weather, NOTAMs, and required flight-plan deviations. The role checks that pilots and crews are qualified for the aircraft and mission, completes risk analysis, identifies flights requiring higher-level approval, signs briefing documents as the flight approving official, advises when flights should not be attempted, and conducts post-mission debriefs. The position processes local and extended clearances and flight plans, transmits flight progress messages to relevant agencies, and initiates search and rescue or crash-rescue procedures when needed. It maintains operational, training, aircrew, aircraft-arrival, and dispatch records; schedules and dispatches aircraft and aircrews; and coordinates administrative support for Synthetic Flight Training System training. It also maintains current flight regulations and navigational publications and supervises on-the-job training for unit flight operations personnel. The position requires National Guard membership and is open to enlisted members only. Applicants must meet the stated military assignment and MOS requirements.
