About The Position

The Flight Nurse functions in a versatile role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence and autonomy in the practice of nursing. The nurse uses the nursing process and evidence-based principles to provide safe, rapid transport of critically ill or injured patients by air ambulance or mobile intensive care to a higher-level medical treatment facility. The Flight Nurse provides advanced emergency and critical care during medical transport and may also provide nursing care for patients throughout Premier Health. The position also includes public relations and medical education functions. The Flight Nurse is accountable for compliance with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, the Nursing Code of Ethics, and applicable regulatory standards.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Hold a valid Ohio RN license.
• Have current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications at the time of hire.
• Hold an EMT-B certification or professional nursing certification at the time of hire.
• Obtain ITLS or PHTLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Obtain NRP certification and complete an ATLS audit within one year of hire.
• Obtain a CAMTS-approved nursing certification and Certified EMT-P certification in the State of Ohio within two years of hire.
• Have a minimum of three years of recent, active RN experience in an Emergency Department or Critical Care setting.
• Be able to multitask with constant interruptions while maintaining a pleasant demeanor.
• Have basic computer knowledge, strong organization skills, and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Special consideration for candidates with at least one year of prior CareFlight Air & Mobile Services experience as a Paramedic: an additional 4,000 hours of critical care experience as an RN in an ICU or Emergency Department is required to reapply to the program as an RN, in place of the three-year experience requirement.

Nice To Haves

• BSN preferred.
• Previous pre-hospital or critical care transport experience preferred.
