About The Position

Conduct flight engineering activities in support of Lighter Than Air (LTA) mission planning, navigation planning, weather analysis, pre-flight launch, termination, and post flight analysis. Provide flight engineering support to flight operations team during campaigns. Analyze surface weather and stratospheric wind predictions and distribute reports. Coordinate communications with ATC and FAA. Understand FAA Regulation Part 101 for Unmanned Free Balloons. Write test plans, procedures, checklists, conduct test, and document results. Build mission and navigation plans. Distribute weather data. Act as training resource for flight operations team members. Coordinate overflight authorizations with OCONUS areas globally. Monitor platform health, analyze data, and troubleshoot problems. Plan and execute navigation plans and system terminations. Support customer payload integrations. Provide support for engineering tests. Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow established safety standards. Demonstrate Aerostar’s Guiding Principles. May be called upon to perform comparable duties of a similar or next nature and/or assist in other areas as needed. Learn, understand, continuously improve, and promote the division’s quality management system in accordance with ISO standards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required or bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent related technical field preferred.
  • 0–2 years’ experience in aviation or electrical/mechanical or experience in lieu of education.
  • Ability to qualify for secret clearance is required.
  • Proficient with a computer, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Active secret security clearance is desired.
  • Experience with Lighter Than Air (LTA) systems is beneficial.
  • Prior military experience is desired.
  • Basic problem analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • High level of patience.
  • Ability to be flexible and multitask.
  • Ability to read blueprints and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Well-developed problem analysis and problem-solving techniques.
