About The Position

The Flexo Press Operator sets up and operates a printing press to produce labels and related products. The position offers onsite training and the opportunity to learn a skilled trade in the printing industry, with potential for career growth and advancement.

The operator reads job orders, prepares and loads press components and inks, starts and adjusts the press, and inspects printed samples for defects. The role also includes mixing inks, cleaning plates, cylinders and dies, carrying out scheduled maintenance, and maintaining an organized work area.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, or one to three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to read and interpret rulers, scales, and other measurement devices.
• Regularly stand and walk between multiple machines.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with or without mechanical assistance.
• Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of five years of flexographic narrow web press experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Read job orders and load dies into the press.
• Install print cylinders on shafts and in the press.
• Fill ink pans, screens, and pumps with prescribed inks.
• Start the press and adjust its speed and stock alignment as needed.
• Engage print cylinders and adjust printing impression as necessary.
• Place print cylinders lead-to-lead and run down an approval strip.
• Cut a sample from the printed roll and inspect it for imperfections, including registration issues, missing impression, ink starvation, and color problems; make adjustments as necessary.
• Clean plates, print cylinders, and dies as needed.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance as required.
• Mix inks to produce and maintain desired colors and viscosity.
• Keep work areas clear and organized and maintain housekeeping standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
