About The Position

The Flex Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) is an essential member of the oral health team who provides high-quality preventive and periodontal care across multiple Choptank Community Health System (CCHS) locations based on operational need. This temporary, flexible role supports CCHS clinics sites by providing a minimum of three (3) shifts per month and participating in a brief orientation and onboarding period. The Flex Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) delivers comprehensive dental hygiene services—including dental prophylaxis, fluoride applications, dental sealants, periodontal therapy, digital radiography, and actively contributes to patient care planning. This role plays a key part in patient education, referral coordination, and supporting continuity of care between patients and providers. Flex Registered Dental Hygienists (RDH) maintain equipment, adhere to safety and infection control protocols, and may provide care in different predetermined CCHS sites as needed. Must be able to respond appropriately to emergency situations. This is a per diem position. The Flex Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) reports directly to the Dental Clinical Quality Director.

Requirements

  • Provide high-quality preventive, periodontal, and patient-centered dental hygiene services
  • Demonstrate proficiency with automated patient data/HER systems
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with digital workflows.
  • Ability to accurately take digital radiographs.
  • Working knowledge of CDT coding
  • Ability to adapt to different clinical environments and schedules across multiple locations.
  • Strong communication and patient-education skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed as a Dental Hygienist by the State of Maryland (license must remain current)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Minimum six months dental hygiene experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in diverse dental settings, including pediatric patient care, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality preventive and periodontal care across multiple CCHS locations based on operational need.
  • Support CCHS clinics sites by providing a minimum of three (3) shifts per month.
  • Participate in a brief orientation and onboarding period.
  • Deliver comprehensive dental hygiene services—including dental prophylaxis, fluoride applications, dental sealants, periodontal therapy, digital radiography, and actively contribute to patient care planning.
  • Play a key part in patient education, referral coordination, and supporting continuity of care between patients and providers.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Provide care in different predetermined CCHS sites as needed.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Clean patient’s teeth thoroughly, including scaling and polishing.
  • Take radiographs as instructed by the dentist.
  • Provide preventative and periodontal dental treatments, such as prophylaxis, scaling & root planning, sealants, and fluoride.
  • Assist in the development of individualized plans of care.
  • Present instruction and conduct demonstrations of home-care techniques.
  • Counsel patients on nutrition and oral health recommendations.
  • Support patient understanding of treatment options and referrals.
  • Monitor supply levels and communicate needs to designated staff.
  • Prepare, sterilize, organize, and set up equipment as needed.
  • Ensure all dental instruments are clean, dated and processed according to established office guidelines.
  • Stay current on new equipment and technology used in CCHS clinics.
  • Report equipment issues to the Dental Clinical Quality Director.
  • Take initiative to solve problems and recommend improvements to the Dental Clinical Quality Director.
  • Display professionalism consistently during interaction with CCHS patients, staff, and clinicians.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively and support team members to maintain a desirable work environment.
  • Make recommendations for cost containment and/or quality improvement.
  • Travel to CCHS sites to support operational needs or staffing shortages.
  • Participate in required 2-day orientation and 1-day clinical onboarding.
