Fleet Upfitter
About The Position
LeCom Utility Contractors is seeking a skilled Vehicle Upfitter/Preventative Maintenance Tech to support our growing fleet operations. This role is responsible for installing, modifying, and maintaining company vehicles and equipment used in power, utility, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems and take pride in delivering safe, clean, and professional vehicle builds—including applying and removing company decals and branding. In addition to vehicle upfitting, this position assists with routine fleet maintenance, including oil changes, preventative maintenance (PM) services, inspections, and minor mechanical repairs to help maximize equipment reliability, safety, and uptime.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–3+ years of experience in vehicle upfitting, automotive, electrical, or related field
- Working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and mechanical components
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Ability to read technical instructions and wiring diagrams
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Valid driver’s license required
Nice To Haves
- Experience with utility fleet vehicles, bucket trucks, or service trucks
- Familiarity with DOT and safety compliance standards
- Experience with GPS, camera systems, or telematics installation
- Vinyl decal or wrap installation/removal experience
- Welding or light fabrication skills
Responsibilities
- Install and upfit work trucks, vans, and specialty utility vehicles with racks, tool storage, lighting, safety equipment, and accessories
- Perform 12V/24V electrical work including wiring, switches, relays, strobes, and inverter systems
- Install and remove vehicle decals, wraps, and company branding to maintain a professional fleet appearance
- Modify interiors and exteriors of vehicles to meet operational needs for field crews
- Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and installation instructions
- Ensure all components are properly mounted, secured, and compliant with safety standards
- Test all installed systems and troubleshoot any issues
- Maintain accurate documentation of upfitting work performed
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Collaborate with fleet, safety, and operations teams to meet project deadlines
