About The Position

Fleet Technician; Works under general supervision of the Service Manager, Service Supervisor, or designated Lead Technician. This employee with proper training and experience will diagnose minor mechanical and electrical problems working in accordance with all standard repair practices along with Federal and State compliance guidelines. This position will road test vehicles to ensure the quality and effectiveness of repairs performed along with identifying potential concerns and will exercise judgement and discretion in resolving issues or making repairs. This position will include performing all other duties / skills in lesser classifications.

Requirements

High School Diploma or its equivalent required.
4 years’ experience in mechanical inspections and repairs in a related field
Must have valid Class B Driver’s License
Ability to understand and adhere to Company Policies in all areas.

4 plus years’ experience in a related field of automotive/Heavy Truck
Class B Commercial Driver’s License Prior to the 3rd party or company provided training.
Advanced knowledge and full understanding of Heavy-Duty Electrical systems utilizing the proper Diagnostic Tools
Able to identify the root cause of failures / conditions on all systems and components along with performing the repairs as required.
Must be CFC 609 Certified
Basic welding skills

Post-Secondary vocational education strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Diagnose minor mechanical and electrical problems working in accordance with all standard repair practices along with Federal and State compliance guidelines.
Road test vehicles to ensure the quality and effectiveness of repairs performed along with identifying potential concerns.
Exercise judgement and discretion in resolving issues or making repairs.
Perform all other duties / skills in lesser classifications.
Perform Preventive Maintenance Inspections; oil changes; chassis lubrication and identifying worn and damaged parts.
Perform inspections both in the shop and remotely to customer needs.
Perform campaigns, install components, and part upgrades as directed.
Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems.
Perform tire repairs, replacements, rotations of vehicles as needed.
Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and emission control standards.
Control costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
Participate in specific training programs as prescribed by VTRL.
Acts as a mentor to lesser qualified Technicians.
Actively seek and participate in available training to enhance personal development.
