About The Position

The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Fleet Services Supervisor in the Fleet Department. This role involves overseeing the maintenance and repair of the City’s diverse fleet, including heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, light vehicles, and specialized machinery. The supervisor will lead a team of technicians, coordinate maintenance operations, and ensure the reliability and safety of essential City equipment. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day shop operations, guiding staff performance, and contributing to projects that improve efficiency and fleet asset longevity. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certification required.
  • Three to five years of increasingly responsible automotive technician experience required.
  • Minimum of two years of responsible supervisory experience.
  • Texas Driver’s License Required

Nice To Haves

  • An associate’s degree from an accredited College or University is preferred.
  • Municipal Experience is preferred.
  • Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements preferred, or able to obtain within 180 days of employment.
  • Forklift Operator Certification, or able to obtain within 120 days of employment.
  • Air Conditioning Freon Recycling Certification, or able to obtain within 180 days of employment.
  • Texas DPS Vehicle Inspector License, or able to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Additional ASE (Automotive Service Excellence)/EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) Certifications Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides exemplary customer service to all individuals by demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding, and responsive, fair, courteous and respectful, and to actively participate in maintaining a positive environment.
  • Assists the Fleet Administrator in planning and directing the efficient and effective operations of the division, including staff development, financial management, and maintenance operations.
  • Ensures Division staff receive appropriate technical and safety training for the efficient and safe performance of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for maintaining effective and cooperative relationships with customer departments to ensure service delivery meets expectations.
  • Assists the division implement policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Evaluate operational control weaknesses and modify and create new procedures.
  • Responsible for the management of the Division’s automated systems for the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of inventory, fleet repairs, costs and billing.
  • Prepares and presents weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to Management regarding services and financial activities of the garage.
  • Responsible for the design, construction, inspection and acceptance of specialized vehicles and equipment.
  • Regular on-site attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
  • Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director and/or their designee(s).
