About The Position

Elk Grove Village is seeking dynamic, detail, and customer service-oriented candidates for the position of Fleet Services Foreman. The Fleet Services Foreman provides direction, technical support, and planning for the daily operation of the Department of Public Works Fleet Services Activity to ensure all Village-owned vehicles and operating equipment are maintained in a safe, effective, and productive manner. The Fleet Services Foreman position reports to the Superintendent of Fleet and will perform all duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of principles of supervision, employee development, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy truck, and equipment systems, as well as tools, equipment, and materials of the general automotive and diesel mechanic trade.
  • Strong communication skills: listening, speaking, and writing.
  • Use of computers & software including, but not limited to Tyler Munis Accounting, Executime, Fleetio, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A graduate from High School is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment is required.
  • Supervisory experience in Public Works or the automotive industry is required.
  • Required to possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License and a safe driving record.
  • Required to possess Class B Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or obtain license within one (1) year of hire.
  • Required to possess Illinois UST Operator Class A, B, and C certifications or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate Degree or completion of vocational training in automotive and diesel technology, as well as related experience and certifications, is strongly desirable.
  • ASE Master Technician certification and/or EVT Master Technician certification are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, coordinating, and directing the maintenance operations of the Fleet Services Activity, as well as establishing priorities and developing emergency repair schedules.
  • Collaborating with the entire leadership team to achieve common departmental goals.
  • Performing administrative duties, including assisting with the preparation of the annual budget for the Village-wide fleet maintenance and fuel budgets, monitoring expenditures, and preparing monthly reports.
  • Assisting in the management of Fleetio, the Villages' fleet management software.
  • Training, supervision, evaluation, and discipline of Fleet Services activity personnel in accordance with established Village policies and procedures.
  • Providing a workplace environment that promotes good safety practices among all employees.
  • Troubleshooting technical problems and developing cost-effective repair alternatives.
  • Maintaining a full inventory of parts and materials.
  • Being on call to handle off-hour emergency situations seven days a week, including overseas incidents, and overseeing emergency repair operations, ensuring an appropriate response as needed.
  • Participating in snow and ice removal operations as part of the emergency response team.
