About The Position

The Fleet Services Automotive Technician I (Light-Duty) position resides in the Fleet Services Department providing trades or craftsman duties above the helper level, repairing and maintaining light-duty cars and trucks up to one (1) ton. Participates in repair activities and complies with written procedures and industry standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate
  • One year of experience maintaining and repairing cars and trucks weighing up to one ton
  • Valid driver license is at time of application
  • Valid AZ driver license is at time of appointment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds
  • Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles and other powered equipment
  • Ability to work in extremes of heat, humidity, dust, cold
  • Ability to safely wear required safety clothing and equipment
  • Ability to work with or in the presence of obnoxious odors
  • Ability to work with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites
  • Ability to differentiate between colors
  • Bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, squatting, and stooping
  • Grasping
  • Hearing in noisy areas on a radio, behind themselves
  • Speaking in person, on a phone, on a radio
  • Vision must be able to operate a motor vehicle, operate a commercial vehicle, operate machinery, operate forklift/power industrial equipment, distinguish color, have depth perception, have peripheral vision
  • Frequently required to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two (2) years experience within the last four (4) years working as an automotive preventative maintenance technician
  • Experience in maintaining and repairing automobiles or light trucks
  • ASE certifications in Automotive Series
  • Experience with/knowledge of using various software applications such as a fleet management system and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on light-duty gas, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars trucks up to one (1) ton
  • Conducts daily inspections of the service bay ensuring a clean and safe work environment
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties
  • Operates tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures
  • Inspects and replaces electrical components such as batteries, light bulbs, and switches
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls, and updating systems
  • Updates vehicle repair and maintenance records using electronic fleet management software
  • Complies with state vehicle emission program standards
  • Upfits vehicles with auxiliary equipment such as emergency lighting, winches, and toolboxes
