The Fleet Services Technician Apprentice program is a formal 3-year program consisting of six steps of 6 months each, while progressively introducing the apprentice to increasingly complex repairs. The apprenticeship in total requires 6,000 hours of on-the-job training (OJT). The apprenticeship also requires a minimum of 144 hours of classroom instruction (RSI) per year. This is a Bargaining Unit position. The Fleet Services Apprentice will have a keen interest in acquiring the ability to repair and maintain all Grant PUD utility equipment while on Grant PUD property and in the field, under the direction and supervision of a Fleet Services Foreman or a Journeyman Technician. The Apprentice, while following all safety protocols, must demonstrate the ability to follow directions, work both independently and supervised, be self-motivated and exercise sound judgement. The Fleet Services Apprentice will perform tasks under the direct supervision of and with assistance from a Journeyman Technician or Foreman. The Fleet Services Apprentice must demonstrate an aptitude for the skills necessary to perform the duties of a Fleet Services Journeyman Technician. The Fleet Services Apprentice will diligently follow all safety regulations and Grant PUD policies. The Fleet Services Apprentice will demonstrate the ability and willingness to work at various locations within the Grant PUD and the ability to safely work during inclement weather. The Fleet Services Apprentice will be available to respond to 24-hour callouts accompanied by a journeyman for training purposes. The Fleet Services Apprentice is required to conduct themselves in a professional, safe, and courteous manner at all times. The Apprentice will maintain a positive attitude towards learning. The purpose of the Fleet Services Apprenticeship program is to help eligible employees progress to Journeyman Technician status, if they have the desire, motivation, skills, aptitude, and determination to be successful as a Fleet Services Journeyman Technician.
