Job Summary: The Fleet Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of safety programs that ensure compliance with federal, state and local transportation regulations. This role focuses on monitoring driver performance, investigating vehicle incidents, and promoting a culture of safety within fleet operations. The Fleet Safety Specialist works closely with drivers, maintenance teams, and operational leadership to reduce risk, improve operational safety, and maintain regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Requires 2–5 years of experience in fleet, safety, transportation, or logistics.
  • Understanding of DOT/FMCSA rules and state-specific transportation laws.
  • Experience with fleet management software, telematics platforms (e.g., Samsara, GeoTab), and Microsoft Office.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Strong analytical thinking, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and excellent communication skills for training diverse groups.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fleet/Safety Management or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help maintain and continuously improve all elements within the NTI Fleet Safety Management System.
  • Support new hire on-boarding delivery as it relates to fleet and driver safety.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA and company standards.
  • Assist in creating fleet safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Administer and track driver safety training for new and existing drivers based on exposure and driving behaviors.
  • Responsible for fleet incident management including determination of at fault, drug testing protocols, and action item coordination.
  • Assist drivers as needed with incident response and reporting procedures.
  • Lead the incident analysis process for all avoidable vehicle incidents.
  • Prepare and lead monthly driver risk level meetings with market leaders and other stakeholders.
  • Manage all vehicle claims while working closely with insurance company and market fleet personnel.
  • Work closely with project managers and site leaders to elevate driver safety programs and behaviors through use of telematics systems.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for drivers when telematics reveals driving behaviors outside of safe driving thresholds.
  • Implement and track corrective action items identified through vehicle inspections or observations.
  • Provide fleet safety communications and bulletins to drivers on a regular basis.
  • Assist the Fleet and TSQ team with additional responsibilities as needed.
