About The Position

This internship provides an excellent opportunity for graduate students or recent graduates interested in gaining comprehensive, hands-on experience in fleet safety and fleet analytics. This position also reports into the Corporate Responsibility, Sustainability (CRS), and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department for LUS which will provide exciting opportunities for some exposure into these programs as well. The intern will work closely with our EHS and CRS teams to support various initiatives aimed at promoting fleet safety and compliance.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a post-graduate program with good academic standing or recent college graduate, in industrial hygiene, occupational health, compliance, environmental science, sustainability management or other related field.
  • Rising juniors or seniors in good academic standing may also be considered if available to work 40 hours/week.
  • Knowledge of or interest in Department of Transportation regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of or interest in Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to manage and analyze large bodies of data effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret legal requirements, reports, and audit findings.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external customers.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and charts.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule required to meet multiple shifts and offsite locations.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and handle sensitive information.
  • Travel domestically up to 5% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of analytics/reports for monthly communication to leadership
  • Analysis of fleet safety data
  • Maintenance of reporting platforms
  • Tracking of orders, LIPs, and status(es) of each
  • Tracking of and reporting on non-compliant behaviors
  • Creation and maintenance of Driver Files
  • Communication to fleet administrators regarding driver issues
  • Escalation to EHS team in the event resolution has not been reached
  • Telematics and training support
