About The Position

Fleet Parts Buyer positions develop, negotiate, and monitor supplies, parts, vendor contracts and purchase orders; utilize a variety of computer database software inventory tracking and reporting software for managing vehicle maintenance, work order and cost tracking; manage vehicle parts and non-vehicular safety equipment storerooms and stock clerk/storekeeper employees; assist in preparing, monitoring, analyzing and reporting on fleet maintenance budgets; monitor fleet automotive and parts account payables, budgetary expenditures and revenues; may forecast related future budgetary needs; purchase a wide variety of parts, materials and supplies for construction, industrial, and motive equipment; analyze departmental needs for parts; develop specifications for purchases requiring written bids; review bids and recommend award of contracts; manage parts storerooms and supervise storeroom personnel; maintain inventory and other storeroom records; and perform other duties as assigned. NOTES: Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases: 3.5% effective 7/1/27 2% effective 7/1/28 2% effective 1/1/29 Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter).
  • One year of paid full-time experience purchasing motive/fleet parts.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience purchasing fire equipment, construction, industrial, or motive equipment for a government agency, commercial fleet, or automotive/equipment dealer.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Possession of an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certificate.

Responsibilities
