About The Position

To supervise, assign and review the work of full-time, as well as, part-time staff responsible for a variety of mechanical and technical duties related to the fleet services function of the LVMPD, which may include in-house service, maintenance and repair; and the transporting of vehicles to outside vendors, for scheduled maintenance, service or repair; to schedule, evaluate and approve automotive services performed on Department vehicles, by outside vendors; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements

  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in automotive repair, including three years of supervisory or lead responsibility, to include Fleet Manager, Service Manager, Service Advisor, or Fleet Dispatcher OR three years as a Fleet Services Technician with the LVMPD.
  • Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited community college or graduation from a formal vocation/technical program of automotive repair management, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the date of the first test instrument.
  • Be at least 18 years old by the date of the first test instrument.

Nice To Haves

  • Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in automotive repair, including four years of supervisory or lead responsibility, to include Fleet Manager, Service Manager, Service Advisor, Service Area/Market Manager; OR three years as a Fleet Services Technician with the LVMPD.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid NV Smog Operator license within 12 months of hire date.
  • More than three years of supervisory or lead responsibility, which involved at least two years providing technical training and/or assistance to skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair technicians performing modifications, fabrication and installation of special emergency police or communications equipment.
  • Experience preparing productivity reports for analysis and evaluation of shop performance.
  • Experience working with outside vendors in planning, coordinating, prioritizing and tracking parts, assemblies and specialized equipment.
  • Experience with budget preparation and cost control principles for a medium to large size organization.

  • Perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
