About The Position

VMSC Emergency Medical Services is seeking a dependable and skilled Full-Time Fleet Mechanic with flexible hours. This role is responsible for completing preventative maintenance, performing routine and corrective repairs in a shop environment, and responding to occasional field repair needs to keep the fleet operational and mission-ready. This position is critical to maintaining fleet readiness, minimizing downtime, and supporting frontline EMS crews.

Requirements

  • Experience in automotive or fleet maintenance (EMS or commercial vehicles preferred)
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driver's history

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on ambulances, diesel platforms, or Ford Transit/Econoline
  • Familiarity with emergency vehicle systems (lighting, sirens, radios)
  • Basic electrical diagnostic experience
  • EVT or ASE certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on ambulances and support vehicles
  • Conduct inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential failures
  • Complete oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and fluid services
  • Ensure all vehicles meet safety and operational standards
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Perform repairs on brakes and suspension, electrical systems and lighting, HVAC systems, and engine and drivetrain components
  • Document all maintenance and repairs accurately
  • Respond to disabled vehicles in the field when required
  • Perform minor roadside or on-site repairs to return units to service
  • Communicate repair status and escalation needs clearly
  • Assist in maintaining an organized and functional shop environment
  • Identify parts and supply needs and communicate shortages
  • Support uptime goals by prioritizing critical vehicle repairs
  • Work collaboratively with logistics and operations staff
  • Perform minor building repairs such as light bulbs, repairing doors, locks, shelves, or fixtures.
  • Assist with seasonal facility maintenance, including snow removal, salting walkways, changing HVAC filters, and other grounds-related tasks as needed.
  • Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned to support operational readiness
