About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing company fleet equipment. This role works closely with the Fleet Maintenance & Equipment Manager, dispatch, drivers, and other mechanics to ensure all equipment is safe, reliable, and compliant with company and DOT regulations.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and basic computer systems.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (including tanker trailers).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership.
  • Ability to operate shop and mobile equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks).
  • Willingness to respond to after-hours service calls as needed.
  • Must be able to pass a 10 panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain in good standing order, as per TSA's TWIC criteria.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of truck or diesel repair experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Tanker trailer experience preferred but not required.
  • Class A CDL with X endorsement preferred, or ability to obtain within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair diesel tractors, tanker trailers, and other fleet equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PMs) including oil changes, inspections, and system checks.
  • Repair and maintain key components including brakes, suspension, electrical systems, aftertreatment systems, and drivetrain components.
  • Conduct DOT annual inspections and ensure all equipment meets regulatory requirements.
  • Perform roadside repairs and respond to emergency breakdowns as needed.
  • Repair tanker components including piping and valves.
  • Maintain and repair additional equipment such as front-end loaders and other company vehicles.
  • Utilize diagnostic software and tools to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
  • Complete and maintain accurate repair orders and maintenance records in a timely manner.
  • Review and respond to Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs).
  • Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and safe working conditions.
  • Assist with parts inventory and ensure necessary materials are available.
  • Travel between company locations or vendors as needed.
