About The Position

Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, the Fleet Mechanic will serve as the person responsible for ensuring the maintenance of company vehicles and facilities and maintaining the highest standard of readiness for service. This includes but is not limited to preventive maintenance, heavy decontamination, quarterly waxing and detail, scheduling both major and minor repairs with qualified personnel or services.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine systems
  • Proficient in diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, brake, suspension, and HVAC systems
  • Ability to use computerized diagnostic tools and fleet maintenance software
  • Knowledge of DOT inspection standards and manufacturer maintenance schedules
  • Understanding of vehicle safety regulations and documentation requirements
  • Ability to maintain accurate service records and compliance logs
  • High level of accuracy in diagnosing mechanical issues
  • Thorough inspection practices to ensure vehicle safety and reliability
  • Strong documentation habits
  • Ability to assess complex mechanical failures and determine root cause
  • Makes sound repair decisions balancing safety, cost, and downtime

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preventative maintenance programs for company and contracted vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspect vehicles and other equipment for evidence of abuse, damage, or mechanical malfunction.
  • Inspect vehicles or equipment to ensure compliance with rules, standards or regulations.
  • Examine transportation vehicles, equipment, or systems to detect damage, wear, or malfunction.
  • Inspect repairs to transportation vehicles and equipment to ensure that repair work was performed properly.
  • Prepare reports on investigations or inspections, and actions taken.
  • Coordinates prompt response and resolution to equipment failures, problems and reports.
  • Schedules preventative maintenance activities by working with the operations managers to effectively circulate the fleet for preventative maintenance and repairs to best support the operation’s needs.
  • Issue notices and recommend corrective actions when infractions or problems are found.
  • Updates all maintenance logs with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Coordinates the transportation of vehicles to and from the fleet mechanics for service.
  • Responsible for the location of vehicles sent out for maintenance or when not in use during daily operations.
  • Inspect facilities and perform minor repairs such as replacing and repairing minor fixtures, basic maintenance and ensuring that property upkeep is maintained.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.
  • Starts engines to test performance and test-drive vehicles to analyze reported issues and assure reasonable performance standards.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance including but not limited to checks and fills of oil, coolant, windshield wiper fluid, fuel and other fluids; checks and replaces light bulbs; checks and assures appropriate air pressure in tires; other maintenance as assigned.

  • Salary Range: $34.00 - $37.00 Hourly
