About The Position

Franz Family Bakery, founded in 1906, is a successful bakery in the Pacific Northwest producing a variety of baked products. With over 4,000 employees and distribution across multiple states, Franz is seeking a Fleet Mechanic to join their fast-paced team. The Fleet Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection, preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of all bakery vehicles, trailers, and related equipment. This role also involves accurate documentation of all work performed and may include maintenance on forklifts and similar equipment.

Requirements

  • High School education or GED.
  • Knowledge of engine, chassis, and body repair.
  • Prior experience repairing, maintaining, and diagnosing diesel and gasoline-powered trucks.
  • Ability to perform welding.
  • Certified for air brake repair and DOT air brake inspection.
  • Must be able to oversee all DOT requirements.
  • Required to provide own mechanic tools.
  • Personal tool inventory list is required by United States Bakery.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work in a thorough manner to ensure quality workmanship.
  • Independent judgment is often required, with some direct guidance from Manager and/or established procedures or instructions.
  • Good judgment is essential for success.
  • Frequent internal contact with people/co-workers and management.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with propane lift trucks is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tractor preventive maintenance and safety inspections, including lubrication, fluid changes, and replacement of belts, hoses, and lights on gas, diesel, and propane vehicles.
  • Change out water pumps, fuel pumps, alternators, starters, radiators, brakes, exhaust systems, batteries, and other equipment/parts essential for safe operation.
  • Reassemble engine components for overhauled engines and reinstall engines into vehicles.
  • Travel on a weekly basis to perform PMs and other repairs on vehicles in remote locations.
  • Maintain service-related records according to company standards.
  • Assist truck or trailer mechanics as requested.
  • Perform clean-up of equipment, parts, and work area.
  • Support and contribute to maintaining a safe environment by working in a safe manner, promoting accident prevention, and reporting potential hazards.
