About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of all company vehicles and equipment, including ambulances, wheelchair vans, and other fleet assets. This position plays a critical role in supporting daily operations by performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections on fleet vehicles. The Fleet Mechanic works to minimize vehicle downtime, maintain compliance with safety standards, and ensure all vehicles are functioning at peak performance. This role requires extensive mechanical knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues. The Fleet Mechanic maintains accurate service and repair records, monitors vehicle conditions, and collaborates with fleet management to schedule repairs, replacements, and preventative maintenance activities. By proactively addressing maintenance needs and identifying potential hazards, the Fleet Mechanic helps ensure the safety of employees, patients, and the public while supporting uninterrupted operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six (6) years of mechanical experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience maintaining fleet vehicles, emergency vehicles, or commercial vehicles preferred.
  • Experience with fleet and asset inventory management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, preventative, and intermediate maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine-related issues.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to identify worn, damaged, or malfunctioning components.
  • Utilize schematics, service manuals, diagnostic software, and specialized equipment to accurately identify and resolve vehicle issues.
  • Perform brake, suspension, steering, engine, transmission, and electrical system repairs as needed.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with company policies, manufacturer specifications, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Assist with fleet inventory management, including tracking parts, supplies, and vehicle service schedules.
  • Coordinate with the Fleet Manager regarding major repairs, vehicle replacement recommendations, and maintenance planning.
  • Respond to emergency repair needs and assist with keeping vehicles operational and roadworthy.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
