About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic III is responsible for maintaining the safe and efficient operating capabilities for the BIVIO transportation fleet. This is accomplished in part by performing and overseeing inspections, routine maintenance, repairs, and record keeping for the fleet. Further, by providing training and guidance for the Fleet Mechanics I & II. The fleet Mechanic III is expected to perform their duties with minimum supervision.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of methods, practices, materials, and tools of the trade.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with outside repair agencies that are capable of repairing fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Principles and practices of gasoline and diesel repair and maintenance.
  • Office and computer skills: filing, scanning, copying, etc.
  • Speak and write in English.
  • Work various shifts.
  • Comprehend and follow orders.
  • Supervise and train subordinate staff.
  • High school diploma.
  • 4 years of journey level Mechanic experience with medium to heavy gas and diesel vehicles.
  • 1 years of supervisory experience.
  • California Class A commercial driver license (airbrake, manual transmission, tanker).

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification for medium – heavy truck diesel engines (T2) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Follow company safety practices and procedures.
  • Perform BIT inspections
  • Perform preventative maintenance services
  • Follow company policies and procedures, adhering to all federal, state, OSHA, CALOSHA, DOT, EPP, and DMV, CHP, laws and regulations.
  • Inspect, diagnose, service, and repair systems and components associated with the fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct truck/tractor/trailer maintenance & safety inspections.
  • Perform repairs by adjusting or replacing defective components.
  • Uses sound judgment in determining the extent of the needed repairs.
  • Perform repairs in accordance with manufactures/department specifications.
  • Track, document, and maintain maintenance records and forms.
  • Track recalls, smog inspections, and warranties.
  • Apply for purchase requisitions/POs in IFS for parts and repairs.
  • Document and maintain a vehicle status log, coordinating with the fleet operational supervisors as to the status of each vehicle’s location and availability.
  • Maintain an adequate innovatory of replacement parts, lubricates, fluids, and related items.
  • Keep an inventory of tools and supplies.
  • Perform roadside service calls.
  • Coordinate and meets with tow truck service.
  • Shuttle vehicles to and from both onsite and offsite locations.
  • Deliver and pick up parts and/or rental vehicles from offsite facilities.
  • Provide training, guidance, and oversight for the Fleet Mechanics I & II.
  • Dispose of failed parts, fluids, and wastes in accordance with company policies.
  • Keeps shop tools and equipment in in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision or management.
